Free Education on How Financial Markets Work

Free nonprofit lessons on how financial markets work: terminology, economic indicators, charts, price movement, and market risk.

Financial markets affect prices, savings, loans, and jobs, yet most people are never taught how they work. Dunn To Perfection Foundation, a Canadian nonprofit organization, teaches the basics for free.

Explore at your own pace. You do not need to complete every course, quiz, activity, or challenge. These tools are here to help make learning easier, clearer, and more engaging.

How financial markets work

A market is a place, physical or electronic, where buyers and sellers agree on prices. Stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities such as gold each trade in their own markets.

Prices move when the balance between buyers and sellers changes. News, expectations, and economic data all shift that balance.

Market terminology

Terms like bid, ask, spread, volume, liquidity, and volatility describe how a market behaves. Our free glossary explains each one in plain language.

Economic indicators

Inflation reports, employment figures, interest-rate decisions, and growth data are published on a schedule. Markets often react to them because they change expectations about the economy.

Learning what each indicator measures helps you understand headlines instead of reacting to them.

Charts and price movement

A price chart is a record of past trading. Candlestick and line charts show where prices opened, closed, and traveled. Charts describe the past; they do not predict the future.

Market risk

Every market can move against you, sometimes quickly. Prices can gap, liquidity can disappear, and leverage magnifies losses as well as gains.

Our material is educational only and is not investment, financial, or trading advice.
