Risk Management, Taught First
Free education on position sizing, stop levels, drawdown arithmetic, and risk-to-reward — the discipline that determines whether learning can continue.
Risk management is the least marketed and most important subject in market education. It is also the only part that is entirely within a person's control.
The arithmetic nobody advertises
A 20% loss requires a 25% gain to recover. A 50% loss requires 100%. This asymmetry is why limiting the size of individual losses matters more than the quality of any entry.
Position sizing
Size is calculated backwards from a predefined risk limit and the distance to the planned exit. It is the mechanism that makes a risk preference real rather than aspirational.
Rules before pressure
Decisions made in advance are made by a calmer person than the one watching a position move. Written rules and a journal are the practical tools for keeping those two people aligned.
